Because we had to cross private
land to get to the mountain, we decided to go around to Harper and up that
way so as to be on BLM public lands. It meant a considerable lengthening to
travel time as from the Brogan side, the mountain range is only 3 miles from
the hiway. Going the route we took, added 2 hours to our time in just
driving.  THE mountain was not important as it was the entire range we
    wanted to work with.

It is a nice road up to Westfall,
then gravel to turning into four wheeling for the next 15 miles. Most of our
mountains are marked as four wheel trails but were still  drivable...
this one was not. We had to leave our cars behind as we transferred feast,
and ceremonial stuff to Curtis Pickup and proceeded forth at 10-15 miles per
hour. It takes one hour to go 15 miles at that speed.

After we passed Harper along the
Hiway, the landscape changed into this unusual topography. White white
buttes rose peopled with stone structures. We were in the middle of ancient
volcanic action and here rose white chalk like monuments. We tried to get
some photos as we sped past, hoping to get more when we came back that way.
As it was dark when we got off the mountains, that did not happen. Amazing
    energy.

          We
had to change vehicles as the trail road was too rough to continue with
our little cars. We transferred to Curt's pickup. Boy were we glad. The
trail became totally impossible for anything other than four wheel drive
as it bounced our kidneys around.. |
